This article focuses on two similar examples of melodramas which are representations of the general aesthetic tendency during the genesis of Yeşilçam period (1948-1959) of the Turkish cinema. This work aims to prove that in the aforementioned era, critical discourse which categorizes, names and classifies movies, imposed the practice of de-genrification for Three Friends and Port of the Lonely. To accomplish this aim, an analysis of comparative critical reception should be done in the first stage.
